So, I've joined The Group of 1000. Now what?

Many of our members who have been inspired and moved to action by the message of the Conversations with God books have done so primarily to support the vision outlined by Neale Donald Walsch in his Four Letters containing the Action Plan to Change Our World. We have asked for a higher commitment than is normally asked in order to make it possible for those of us who wish to be the change we want to see in the world to do just that.

While in some organizations it is perfectly fine to simply renew your membership each year, The Group of 1000 is asking more of you. The Group of 1000 is an activist group which tithes its time and money and spiritual energy to creating the possibility of a new spirituality's emerging on the planet. You have pledged 1% of your income, 1% of your time each month, you've promised to touch 1% of the people in your life with this message, and you've committed to doing this for a full year.

What does that mean exactly? What can you do? Here are some of our suggestions, but they are only suggestions. It's all up to you.

  1. Go directly to the Member's Area (you will have received a login ID and password) of our site, www.thegroupof1000.com, and click on the link "Roles." You will be taken to a page of volunteer opportunities with the partner organizations. There will be something which will resonate with you and, if not, one of our member services team will be happy to have a conversation with you about an area of service which will match your skills and interests. From there, click on "Apply for Roles" and register to volunteer your time and energy.
  2. Buy one copy of one of the Conversations with God books, or another book supporting the movement for a new spirituality on the earth. Leave it on the bus for someone to pick up, take it to your doctor's waiting room and "accidentally" leave it behind, donate it to your public library, take it to the book swap at your local Starbucks. Remember, the person who is meant to read it, will read it, and his or her life will change.

  3. Read and study the materials, over and over again, of those authors whose writing stimulates you and inspires you to new and grander ideas about yourself, your relationship with God, and with the entire world.
  4. Talk to your friends and family about your beliefs-that a new idea about God and about life can bring the lasting peace for which we all yearn. Bring them into your home individually or in groups to discuss the ideas that inspire you to action.
  5. Share your books, magazines, and videos with libraries and reading rooms in your community. Don't assume that everyone has access to the wealth of material that you do.
  6. Offer to speak to a small group at your church or community center about the Action Plan to Change our World. Share the ideas in What God Wants and Tomorrow's God. When you've gathered everyone, begin by asking each person to introduce themselves by talking about what their major passion is in their life, and what about the topic of this evening drew them to this gathering. Meanwhile, circulate a sign-up sheet to ask EVERYONE who attends to give you their name, phone, email and home address-and send us a copy so that we can connect with them, too.

  7. Take the material in the Four Letters and the Action Plan to Change Our World and make a flyer. Distribute it around your town in waiting rooms and bookstores. Pin it up on community bulletin boards. You never know who you will reach with this kind of apparently random distribution. Better yet, email info@TheGroupof1000.com and ask for the G1K flyer to be sent to you so that you can download it and print it out.
  8. Create a study group to read books related to the New Spirituality and on spiritual activism, such as The Left Hand of God by Rabbi Michael Lerner and God's Politics by Jim Wallis. Put an advertisement in your local paper, or online, and invite anyone interested in talking about the new spirituality to come to your home on a regular basis. Let us know that you are having in-home gatherings. Tell us about your topics of discussions. On the Member's Area of the website you will find a link entitled "Member Activities" where you can log narratives about what you are actually doing in your community.

  9. Start a local newsletter. Take the languaging on www.thegroupof1000.com if you need to, and create a regular newspaper that will inform your friends and neighbors of the things going on in your own community that support the Action Plan to Change Our World.
  10. Approach people with money, or foundations, and ask them to support The Group of 1000. Be prepared to talk to them about the School of the New Spirituality and Humanity's Team and what those organizations are doing now and will be doing in the future to make a difference in the future of our children. Explain that without financial backing, we cannot be serious about starting schools and educational program which will change the world at the level of belief.
  11. Think long and hard about what specific talents and skills you have. Start using them as powerful tools for change. If you don't have any ideas, talk to us at info@TheGroupof1000.com. We can cocreate effective means of using your talents and finding creative ways to dedicate your tithe of time each month. For example: if you are a writer, approach your local newspaper about writing a column about a new spirituality topic. If you are a book store frequenter, ask the clerks if they would be willing to distribute flyers about The Group of 1000. If you are a media-savvy person, call in to your favorite talk show and ask pertinent questions about spiritual activism, or talk about your idea of what that is. If you are a business person, talk to your colleagues about finding ways to fund the building of the New Spirituality education system. If you are a musician, perform a benefit concert in your church or community to raise funds or simply raise consciousness about the New Spirituality. Be creative!!

Remember, we are committed to creating a New Tomorrow, a new future for the beings of this planet, a future in which our children and our children's children will feel safe, self-realized, and loved by life. We are committed to creating the space of possibility for a New Spirituality to emerge upon the earth. We are committed to creating a Civil Rights Movement for the Soul, freeing humanity at last from the oppression of its belief in a violent, angry, and vindictive God, and from all the human behaviors those beliefs produce. We are committed to creating New Realities in our lives and in our world.

Connect with us at info@TheGroupof1000.com. Tell us what you are doing and what is working for you. Tell us how working for change is actually making a difference in your life. Send us pictures of your activities and your friends and neighbors who are joining you in this effort. Whatever you do, don't stop. Keep the momentum going. And, if something is not working for you, tell us about that too, and let us help or suggest a different way.

Let's change tomorrow by acting today. Be impatient!
